Roundup of Weekend Senior Club Action in Connacht

With the curtain coming down on the inter county season last weekend in Croke Park, attention now turns to club action as the local championships get towards the business end. In Sligo this weekend, St Mary’s had a comfortable 3-15 to 1-9 victory over Coolaney/Mullinabreena. They will now face Eastern Harps in the semi-final, who beat Coolera/Strandhill in their quarter final 1-12 0-11. In the other semi-final Tubbercurry will play the winners of Tourlestrane and Calry/St Josephs. No date or times have been fixed for these games yet.

In Galway there was high drama in the county semi-finals this weekend as reigning champions Corofin scored a last gasp point deep in stoppage time to overcome Annaghdown on a scoreline of 0-11 to 1-7. This win set up a final showdown with Mountbellew/Moylough on October 15th. Mountbellew/Moylough had plenty to spare in their semi-final win over Monivea Abbey, running out 3-15 to 1-4 winners at the final whistle.

The Roscommon championship is down to the last four, with a double header in Hyde Park scheduled for this coming Sunday. Western Gaels face St Brigids in one game and Roscommon Gaels take on Boyle in the other. Glencar/Manorhamilton will face Mohill in the decider in Leitrim after beating Ballinamore 3-8 to 0-10 on Saturday evening. Mohill reached the final on the back of a narrow one point victory over St Mary’s in the second game of the double header. The final will be played on Sunday October 8th at Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada. Action in Mayo is only starting back up next weekend after their run to the All Ireland Final with the final round of group games down for decision.
