June 30th, 2015

Connacht GAA Football Feile Day

Last Saturday at the Connacht G.A.A. Centre 24 Clubs from the Province played in the Provincial Football Feile competition. In all over 500 boys got an opportunity to display their skills, with thirty six games being played on the day. As part of the restructuring of the National Feile Competitions, teams from Connacht participated in Feile Competitions in various locations throughout the country with the National Féile Peil na nÓg taking place in Carlow, Wexford and Wicklow, other Clubs played in National regional blitzs that took place at other venues throughout the Country. These supplementary competitions are ensuring that as many Clubs as possible get the Feile experience.

At the Connacht GAA Centre there was three different divisions with eight teams at each division. Each team played in 3 games against clubs from across the province giving every player an opportunity to pit their wits against players from other counties. The games were all very competitive but played in a very sporting manner. There was an onus on all Clubs to play all members of their panel. The fact that there was no outright winners gave clubs a freedom to be generous with the rolling substitution rule.

We would like to thank the nine Referees who presided over all the games and our various Games Managers who assisted greatly in ensuring the competition ran to time. We would also like to thank all the Players and Management teams who contributed to making this a very special sporting day.

Provincial Games Manager
