Round Up of Weekend County Championship Action in Connacht

 

Tourlestrane retained the Sligo Senior County Championship courtesy of a 1-12 to 0-8 win against Tubbercurry, with corner-back Cian Surlis getting the all important goal 5 minutes into the second half. It marks Tourlestranes’s first ever three in-a-row, with the game taking place in Quigbar, home of Enniscrone/Kilglass for the first time since 1987.

Easkey are county Junior Champions after defeating Owenmore Gaels 1-11 to 1-5 on Saturday in Cloonacool, with Joe McHugh scoring the decisive goal in the second half for them.

Aughawillan finished strongly to overcome the Mohill challenge by 0-14 to 1-9 at Pairc Sean MacDiarmada to win the Leitrim Senior Championship.

Gary Plunkett was the hero as Aughawillan recovered following the concession of a first half goal to Ronan Gordon.

In the Intermediate County Final which was the curtain raiser to the senior decider, Fenagh and Annaduff couldn’t be seperated 1-8 to 0-11, with the details of the replay yet to be confirmed.

 

Donie Shine, Jonathon Dunning, Cathal Callinan and Ciaran Lennon all raised green flags in the Roscommon County Senior Final as Clann na ngael dethroned St Brigid’s, winning out 4-15 to 1-12 in a game played in glorious late autumn sunshine in Dr Hyde Park. Captain Shine was the leading light for Clann, landing 1-7.

Ballintubber, inspired by the O’Connor brothers once more, finally overcame reigning Champions Castlebar Mitchells after an epic Semi Final Replay in MacHale Park on Saturday evening. It took extra time to separate the two teams after another enthralling battle, Ballintubber finally winning out by the narrowest of margins, 0-16 to 0-15. They now roll on to take on Breaffy in the County Final this coming Saturday night.

In the County Senior Hurling Final, Cathal Freeman produced an inspirational display as Tooreen edged out rivals Ballyhaunis 0-15 to 0-11.

Salthill/Knocknacarra advanced to the County Semi Finals after overcoming Milltown after extra time  3-13 to 1-16 in their quarter final replay. This completes the line up for a mouth watering double header of Semi Finals next Sunday in Tuam Stadium, with Mountbellew Moylough v Salthill Knocknacarra at 1.30pm followed by Corofin v Annaghdown at 3.15pm.

Caltra were relegated to Intermediate following their 2-15 to 0-8 defeat to Tuam Stars in Corofin on Saturday, while in Group A Naomh Anna defeated Kilconly 2-10 to 0-10.
