Connacht GAA Championship Launch
The Connacht GAA Senior Football Championship was launched today at the Connacht GAA Centre. The six captains from the remaining teams in the competition were all in attendance and they were joined by team managers, Shane Warde(Leitrim), Paul Coggins(London), Noel Connelly(Mayo) and Niall Carew(Sligo) and Selectors Brian Silke(Galway) and Gay Sheerin(Roscommon). President of Comhairle Chonnacht welcomed all to the event and stressed the significance and importance of the Connacht GAA Provincial championship to all in attendance, he lauded the special competiveness of the province with each team starting the campaign with the realistic chance of winning provincial honours. New York and London added to the uniqueness of the Championship and Mick praised the five ‘Home’ counties who travel to play overseas to start off their championship campaigns. These games provide a ‘shop window’ to all in New York and London in their efforts to promote Gaelic Games and more importantly our Irish Culture. Paraic Duffy, Provincial PRO, added that the championship draw this year threw up many attractive fixtures with many games that will whet the appetite.
Next Sunday, 17th May, in Pairc Sean MacDiarmuida will see the next instalment of the Senior Championship with Galway, fresh from their victory in New York, take on the challenge of Leitrim. This game will be preceded by the Connacht GAA Junior Football Championship with Mayo facing Galway.
