Connacht GAA Win Inspirational Sustainable Energy Community Category at SEAI Awards
Connacht GAA were delighted last Thursday at the Mansion House to be named the winners in the Inspirational Sustainable Energy Community Category at the 20th Annual SEAI Awards.
The Connacht GAA Sustainable Energy Community (SEC) joined the Network in 2019. It started out as an initiative aimed at understanding our bills and educating staff on daily energy efficiency behaviours which then evolved into developing our their Energy Master Plan which has a 10-year vision for the Centre.
As the world’s largest Airdome (The University of Galway Connacht GAA AIr Dome), powered by solar energy, this project is a showcase to our over 150,000 annual visitors. The University of Galway Connacht GAA Airdome is now exporting solar energy with the first category B export licence to go live in Ireland. The centre and its programmes have led to us being an intrinsic part of the newly Launched GAA Green Club programme. Connacht GAA SEC supports the programme with messaging, awareness and education to the 2000+ clubs and members. The initial roadmap has brought us on a journey of change, from installing successful projects, through to culture change and community leadership beyond Connacht.
We would like to thank all our sponsors and partners in helping us to this fantastic award, your help and support as always is greatly appreciated.
