Extension to Walkway at Connacht GAA COE Officially Opened
Connacht GAA are pleased to announce the official opening of the extended walkway at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence on Monday the 22nd July, with Minister Alan Dillon performing the official ribbon cutting.
Since opening in 2012, we have been improving and expanding the facilities at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence year on year, most notably with the development of the University of Galway Connacht GAA Air Dome in 2020 and this is the latest improvement to the campus.
The development of the new section of walkway was made possible by a substantial grant from the Department of Rural and Community Development through their Clár 2023 programme and will extend the current path around the perimeter of the Centre from 1.6 to 2.2kms, providing the community a safe and scenic area for exercise.
“We are delighted to have the support of the Department of Rural and Community Development to improve our facilities for the users of the Centre here in Bekan,” said Connacht GAA CEO John Prenty. “We are very proud of the role the Centre plays not just as a hub for Gaelic Games in the province but also as a resource for people of all ages in so many different ways. We are now welcoming nearly 200,000 visitors per year to the Centre which has a hugely positive impact on the Region as a whole. It is imperative that the Centre lives up to its name as a Centre of Excellence and all the facilities on and off the field are as good as they can be.”
