Huge Numbers Attend Super Games Centres all over Connacht on Bank Holiday Weekend
Following on from the huge success of the Super Games Friday Night Lights held here at the Connacht GAA Centre in December and January (with more than 700 players from 48 clubs participating in the matches), we held 7 different events across the province over the course of the St Patrick’s Bank Holiday weekend just passed. There have also been 8 hurling events at 4 different venues in 2019 with massive turnouts each night. A breakdown in the figures at the various locations in each county are available below.
What has really shone through since these events were first conceived of is the strong appetite out there within the kids in this age group to play football and hurling in a laid back, fun environment with no interference from adults and coaches. It was apparent from the feedback from everyone involved that events run in this format are very enjoyable and allow 13 and 14 year old’s to play with a sense of freedom in the informal atmosphere. There are no subs so all players get a full hour of playing with the mixed teams meaning there are no cliques and everyone gets an equal opportunity regardless of ability.
