Skills for Schools Programme

The Connacht GAA Skills for Schools” programme is a coaching initiative that has been developed to provide top class coaching directly to schools in football and hurling through YouTube (Layout of a typical session below).

The programme is designed for 3rd to 6th class students and there will be 6 weeks of coaching sessions for each of the four school terms.

1 14th Sep 2021 17th Sep 2021
2 2nd Nov 2021 5th Nov 2021
3 11th Jan 2022 14th Jan 2022
4 26th April 2022 29th April 2022

The hurling session will take place each Tuesday at 10am and the football each Friday at 10am. Each session is available on YouTube to use for one week before the next session is uploaded so you can let your class take part whenever suits you. By the end of the programme all the skills of our games will have been covered.

The teacher will receive one PDF document each week which will give details for that week’s session including timings, videos, images and descriptions for each exercise.

The next few lines will give a description of how the online coaching session works once it goes live on YouTube.

Timeline of the Live Session:

10am – Darragh Cox & a county player/coach go live on YouTube for approximately 5 minutes. The link to this will be sent out beforehand. They will introduce and demonstrate the designated skill for that week and explain to the pupils the exercises (video & audio) they will be doing in the practical element (Teacher will have received this information in the booklet mentioned above).

When Darragh finishes, the pupils and teacher go and perform the practical session either in the yard or indoor facility.

10:40am (Have to be back in classroom by this time) – Darragh Cox & the county player/coach will review the session
